Weekly Paycheck Calculator 2026
Calculate weekly take-home pay across 52 paychecks a year, after federal, state and payroll taxes.
How this is calculated
Your employer does not settle your tax bill once a year. It withholds from every paycheck using the percentage method the IRS publishes in Publication 15-T, and this calculator runs the same steps in the same order.
Gross pay for the period is worked out first. Pre-tax deductions come off next, and this is where most free calculators go wrong: a traditional 401(k) contribution reduces the wages your income tax is figured on, but it does not reduce the wages Social Security and Medicare are figured on. A health premium, HSA or FSA contribution reduces both, because those sit inside a Section 125 cafeteria plan.
What remains is annualised, reduced by the standard deduction for your filing status, and run through the federal bracket table. Dependent credits are subtracted, then the result is divided back down to your pay period and any extra W-4 withholding is added. State tax is calculated separately on its own base with its own deduction and brackets. Post-tax items such as Roth 401(k) and garnishments come off last, and what is left is your net pay.
Weekly pay and the smallest withholding rounding
Weekly pay means 52 checks a year and the smallest per-period amounts, which makes rounding visible. Withholding is calculated on the annualised figure then divided back down, so a few cents of difference per period is normal and your year-to-date totals are what count.
Weekly is the standard in construction, trades, hospitality and staffing, where hours vary. Where hours vary, so does withholding: a 50-hour week is annualised as though you worked 50 hours all year, so it is withheld at a higher effective rate than a 38-hour week. Across the year it evens out.
Weekly pay when your hours move
If your hours change week to week, calculate both a typical week and a busy week and budget against the lower one. Enter overtime hours in the hourly mode above to see how a heavy week is withheld, then compare the two net figures.
For salaried weekly pay the arithmetic is simpler: annual salary divided by 52. A $62,400 salary is exactly $1,200 a week gross.
Benefit deductions on a weekly cycle
Benefit premiums are usually quoted per month, so a weekly payroll splits them across four or five checks. Some employers take a fixed weekly amount, others skip the fifth check in a month. Check which your employer does before you compare a pay stub against this estimate, because it changes individual checks without changing the annual total.

Frequently asked questions
How many weekly paychecks are in a year?
Fifty-two. Because 52 weeks is 364 days, a 53rd payday appears occasionally on a weekly payroll, the same calendar drift that produces a 27th biweekly paycheck.
How do I work out weekly pay from an annual salary?
Divide the annual salary by 52. A $62,400 salary is $1,200 gross a week. Net pay is lower after federal income tax, Social Security at 6.2%, Medicare at 1.45%, state tax where it applies, and your own deductions.
Is weekly pay taxed more than biweekly?
No. The withholding tables are built per pay frequency, so the annual total is the same whichever schedule you are on. Only the per-check amount changes.
Why was more tax taken out of my busy week?
Payroll annualises each period. A 50-hour week is withheld as though every week were 50 hours, which pushes that single check into a higher bracket than your actual annual income. The excess is refunded when you file.
What is the difference between weekly and biweekly for budgeting?
Weekly pay smooths cash flow because money arrives every seven days, which suits variable hours and weekly bills. Biweekly pay gives larger checks and two three-payday months a year, which suits people who budget monthly.
Can I ask to be paid weekly?
Pay frequency is set by your employer within your state\u2019s pay-frequency law. Several states require weekly or biweekly pay for manual workers specifically. Your state labour department publishes the rule that applies to you.
